Nurses' and midwives’ cleaning knowledge, attitudes and practices: An Australian study

BackgroundAs frontline providers of care, nurses and midwives play a critical role in controlling infections such as COVID-19, influenza, multi-drug resistant organisms health care associated infections. Improved cleaning can reduce the incidence infection is cost effective but relies on healthcare personnel to correctly apply measures. As have most contact with patients an important first step improving compliance, this study sought explore nurses' midwives’ knowledge environment prevention control identify challenges maintaining clean patient environments.MethodsCross-sectional online survey 96 (RN/EN) (RW) employed clinical settings (e.g. hospital, aged medical centre, clinic) Australia.ResultsNurses broadly stated that they understood importance cleaning. However, responsibilities varied there was confusion regarding application different disinfectants when after suspected or diagnosed post-discharge.
